Paris Jackson Through The Years in Pictures

Paris Jackson Through the Years

Following her shocking suicide attempt June 5, take a look back in pictures at Paris Jackson's life with her late father, Michael Jackson, and her difficult transition into the spotlight.

Michael Jackson welcomed daughter Paris with wife Debbie Rowe in April 1998. Jackson and Rowe, who divorced in 1999, were also parents to son Prince Michael, born in 1997. The King of Pop later welcomed his third child, son Prince Michael II, via an unidentified surrogate mother, in 2002.

Jackson kept Paris and her brothers hidden from cameras by having them cover their faces in a variety of ways. During a November 2002 trip to a zoo in Berlin, Germany, Paris wore a veil over her head. "He'd try to educate us as much as he could and was always looking out for us," Jackson told Mail on Sunday's Event magazine in April 2013. "He was very protective."

In a rare family portrait, Jackson and his kids posed with friend/real estate developer Mohamed Hadid (and occasional guest star on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and his two children at the Jackson Holmby Hills residence in Westwood, Calif. in November 2008. "I was really confused. I didn't get why I was wearing a mask," Paris told Oprah Winfrey in June 2012.

During a June 2009 shopping trip in West Hollywood, Paris wore a colorful feather mask to hide her face from cameras. "He didn't want anyone to see what we looked like," Paris explained to Event magazine in 2013. "That way we could have what he didn't, which was a normal childhood."

Paris in Mourning

Jackson died at the age of 50 after going into cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home in June 2009. In her first public appearance, Paris spoke at her father's memorial service in L.A. that July. "Ever since I was born, daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine," she said through tears. "And I just want to say, that I love him so much."

Grammy Pro

Looking grown up and professional in thick-framed glasses, Paris and brother Prince accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on their father's behalf at the 2010 Grammy Awards. "Daddy was supposed to be here," Paris said. "Daddy was going to perform this year but couldn't. Thank you, we love you daddy."

Daddy Forever

"We're very happy to be here on this special night to honor our father," Paris, wearing a replica of her father's famous red and black leather jacket from his "Thriller" music video said on stage at the October 2011 Michael Forever concert in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

Solo Debut

The teenager gave her first solo interview with Ellen DeGeneres in December 2011. "I love acting," she revealed. "When I was really little," Jackson said, "My Dad was in the movie Moonwalker, and I knew he could sing really well, but I didn’t know he could act. I saw that and I said, 'Wow, I want to be just like him.'" Paris is set to make her film debut in the upcoming Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys.

First Pitch

Sporting new bangs, Paris honored her father by throwing the first pitch at the St. Paul Saints vs. the Gary SouthShore RailCats in his hometown of Gary, Ind. in August 2012.

Fits Like a Glove

Paris smiled for the cameras as she pressed her dad's famous sparkly glove into cement at the Michael Jackson Hand and Footprint ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in L.A. in January 2012. "I want to go to medical school and be a doctor specializing in heart surgery," Paris told Event magazine. "I want to help people."

Rockin' Cheerleader

Paris cut off her long locks for a dramatic new look in February, 2013. She showed off her edgy, dark 'do and her cheerleading skills at school during a basketball game in March. "I want to have a normal high school experience," Paris told Event magazine in 2013.

Spreading Love

Paris flashed the love sign to photographers while out to lunch with mom Rowe in April 2013. Reconciling with Rowe after years of estrangement, the teenager wore tiny denim shorts, a long camouflage jacket and showed off her midriff in a cropped t-shirt. "The clique in my class, they don't like me or my friend because we're outside of the box," Paris told Glamour magazine in 2012. "We're not copycats. [My brother] Prince calls me goth, but I'm more rock 'n' roll."

Battling Depression

Paris was rushed to an L.A. hospital on June 5, 2013 after she attempted to commit suicide by cutting herself with a kitchen knife and overdosing on Motrin. "Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are," an attorney for Paris' paternal grandmother, Katherine Jackson, said in a statement. "It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you." Four days prior to her suicide attempt, a sullen Paris was photographed stepping out in West Hollywood.
